Article 9.2 Technical Qualifications for Instructional Staff

All HVACR instructional staff must have provable technical qualifications.

The full time HVACR instructional staff shall have all of the following qualifications (except as noted) before the on-site evaluation is scheduled:

  1. EPA Refrigerant Handling Certification under Section 608 of the Clean Air Law

  2. Basic Entry Level Competency as shown by passing the Industry Competency Exam (ICE) with a minimum grade of 80% in the area of program accreditation being taught as listed below:
    • Residential Heating and Air Conditioning
    • Light Commercial Heating and Air Conditioning
    • Commercial Refrigeration
    **Instructors holding a current ICE, NATE, or CM/CMS certification are exempt from requirement #2.

  3. Service Sector Technician Certification (not installation sector technician certification)
    Certification will be:
    • ACE Service Technician Certification Test administered by NATE
      **This certificate will be earned within one (1) year of the date of hiring or within the time frame of applying for accreditation.

      OR

    • CM/CMS Certification administered by RSES, if the CM/CMS certificate was earned in the previous five (5) years.

  4. All Staff must have five (5) years of documented HVACR industry field experience.

Additional staff who are not responsible for full HVACR instructional duties are required to demonstrate their technical expertise through documentation of work experience.
